The work was written for the saxophonist Margarita Shaposhnikova, professor at the Gnessin Institute (now Russian Academy of Music), and was performed by her in 1987 in the Great Hall of the Academy. The Mini Partita consists of 6 pieces being conceived to be suitable for playing by advanced students. Later, upon being asked by other musicians the composer made arrangements for viola, clarinet, flute and other instruments.
