Like his famous symphony "From the New World", Dvorák's Violin Sonatina was also written in the United States. Dvorák would certainly have been pleased to hear how this piece, too, has become popular in the meantime. He wrote to his publisher Simrock: "The sonatina is intended for young people (dedicated to my two children), but adults should also be able to derive some kind of enjoyment from it."
