Song for Jaco is a warm and lyrical ballad of Peter’s, which is dedicated to the legendary electric bassist, Jaco Pastorius. Solo contributions are heard from the lead trumpet, the baritone saxophone and the bass, with brief statements from the lead alto saxophone. In addition to the improvised solos, everyone has to bring the written melodies to life in a highly personal manner which is especially important in ballads and lyrical pieces. (Bill Dobbins)
