The Storm is Passing Over is a traditional Black Gospel song that should be performed with enthusiasm and joy. Choirs with limited experience singing gospel music will be able to perform the syncopated and heavily accented vocal parts with ease. Care must be given to keep the tempo steady, highlighting the syncopated vocal lines.

The piece may be performed with piano accompaniment only, with a rhytm section and paino or without piano accompaniment. If the piano is not used, drums maybe added to the sound of the choir's rocking. If accompaniment is used, the pianist is free to add chords and gospel piano styling such as doubling of bass notes, high octaves, fill-in notes, and the like. The rhythm section should be comprised of drums, bass guitar (accustic or electric) and lead guitar. The accompanying ensemble must take care to allow the rests performed by the choir to be heard. The addition of an ensemble enhances the performances for the choir and audience.
