"Maxwell Davies's Mass comprises striking contrapuntal settings of the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus-Benedictus, and Agnus Dei. The Gloria involves some dazzling antiphonal effects (the cathedral has sought to underline the dramatic, as well as the devotional, role of the Mass). Maxwell Davies has also volunteered a monodic setting of the Credo with organ, a kind of original plainsong that might be tried by imaginative church choirs."
