"This compilation of some of the neglected operetta music by a composer who created more operetta melodies even than the famous Johann Strauss is long overdue. The CDs make wonderful listening and are guaranteed to keep one in a good mood throughout with pleasant, melodious and happy music. This box set in its own way creates a milestone. Ziehrer has largely been known for his orchestral dance music and of course the famous 'Fan' Polonaise that introduces most Viennese Balls. Despite the fact that the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra rarely features his music in their New Year concerts, previous issues on CD of a wide range of his music is now widely available. His many compositions have become recognised by lovers of Viennese music as being equal to that of the Strauss brothers, with whom he was a lifetime competitor, and his melodic style is certainly catching, and stands up well to repeated listening."
