J.G.W. PALSCHAU AND J.A.P. SCHULZ
Concertos and solo works for harpsichord
Lars Ulrik Mortensen, harpsichord

Johan-Gottfried W. Palschau, composer
J.A.P. Schulz, composer

Concerto Copenhagen

About
The two composers J.G.W. Palschau (c. 1741-1815) and J.A.P. Schulz (1747-1800) started their musical careers as child prodigies. They were both influenced by the great J.S. Bach and each transformed his own musical vision into original works, unfortunately mainly forgotten by posterity. This release features the only two harpsichord concertos (from 1771) that Palschau ever composed, and Schulz’ solo pieces Six diverses pièces pour le Clavecin ou le Piano Forte (from 1778). The works were composed in a period of transition for instrumental music with inspiration from both Bach and Mozart.

Reviews
P2 Prize - DMA Classical 2007
Orchestral Release of the Year

The band is spirited and the ensemble is excellent ... Here's a persuasive demonstration of how to make the harpsichord expressive!
(Early Music Review)

Expertly played by Lars Ulrik Mortensen (...) The recorded sound is exemplary and catches the harpsichord with a warm glow but never leaves smudges
(Musicweb International)

Mortensen ruller sig ud med uimodståeligt drive og en herligt fantaserende diktion ... Orkestret er lysvågent swingende med skarp og fjedrende artikulation og lækker, kviksølvagtig nuancering.
(Politiken)

Hos Mortensen & Co. får musikken farve i kinderne ... Liflig lyd til den nysgerrige musiklytter.
(Berlingske Tidende)

Kan virkelig anbefales.
(Musikeren)

What a virtuoso showoff extravaganza!
