The hi-hat cymbal splash has become a common sound in rock drumming. Producing this sound requires an extra degree of coordination because the left foot, which activates the hi-hat cymbals by controlling the hi-hat pedal has to be brought into use. And generally speaking, when it comes to playing drums it's the left foot which is the least developed of the four limbs.
