CME Repertoire: Opera Workshop

CME Repertoire: Opera Workshop
Series Editor: Doreen Rao

This new opera series introduces the colorful and dramatic world of opera to young singers with a variety of offerings from classic operatic literature carefully chosen for the young singing voice. Music, which is inherently dramatic, can be particularly inspiring and motivating for young singers as they explore its theatrical content. Issues of characterization, dramatic motivation, setting, costuming (real or imagined) and movement can be explored to develop an understanding of music as drama and to introduce this great art form to a new generation.  This understanding can lead to a richer experience of the dramatic element in all music, and the emotional rewards and self-growth that this brings. The music in this series lends itself to simple staging, but can also be sung in concert form.
