The name is derived from the type of laser used. Whereas DVDs rely on a red laser to read and write data, Blu-ray uses a far more precise blue-violet laser, offering more than five times the amount of detail compared to standard-definition commonly used in DVDs.
This new technology offers viewers a greatly enhanced High-Definition video/audio experience: sharper pictures, more vivid colours and a crystal-clear sound quality. Today, more and more film studios now support Blu-Ray as a successor to today's DVD format. Blu-ray offers an outstanding audio and visual experience, with up to six times the resolution of standard definition DVD, and up to 7.1 channels of High Definition surround sound.
So if you are looking to experience Rigoletto or Don Giovanni in its most subtle vocal inflections, our Blu-Ray Disc catalogue will certainly provide you with hours of aural and visual pleasure!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Blu-ray Discs can only be played on dedicated Blu-Ray machines, and are not compatible with standard DVD players.
