New Jazz Ensemble pieces from Boosey & Hawkes

New Jazz Ensemble pieces from Boosey & Hawkes
Chick Corea pays tribute to the hard bop era, while David Benoit evokes the spirit of Jobim.

Early Afternoon Blues: Recorded by Chick Corea and Origin on the CD “Change,” Chick pays tribute to the hard bop era and Miles Davis in particular with this modal medium tempo blues. Mark Taylor's version for young players starts with a small group playing the head before the saxes take over on the second chorus. Including solo space for piano and also a flexible solo section with written samples for all players, this well-written chart will make any band sound polished.

Six P.M.: The laid-back style of David Benoit is apparent in this Jobim-esque composition from his 2006 CD “Full Circle.” Mark Taylor's version features smooth harmonies and flowing lines in an excellent adaptation for jazz ensemble suitable either for festivals or casual concerts.
