ABCD 23rd Annual Convention: August 2008

Get a whole year's motivation in one inspirational weekend, as the Association of British Choral Directors holds its 23rd Annual Convention in Lincoln, UK!This year’s Convention is held from 22–24 August.
Themes include:
Renaissance and Baroque music: performance, interpretation and authenticity for all types of choir; Education: repertoire, skills and practical ideas for working with young people, whether in the classroom or the community.
Here are just a few highlights:
• Jeffrey Skidmore from Ex Cathedra on 17th century Latin American Baroque music
• Singing Playgrounds – find out how to enable children to become singing leaders
• Peter Broadbent on ‘The Music of Language’
• Gillian Dibden, Jo McNally and Janette Ruocco with ideas for increasing singing in primary schools
• Andrew Parrott with a lively discussion on performance practice
• Bob Chilcott – with a live jazz combo!
• Nicholas Cleobury on tackling Baroque works with a large choir
• Margaret Izatt on pre-school singing and care of the voice throughout life
• The joy of singing with Brenda Rattray, jazz gospel singer
• Songs sacred, secular and salacious with the Orlando Consort
• US composer Eric Whitacre – ‘the hottest thing in choral music’
• Alison Street & Linda Bance – enhancing three to five year old children’s innate musicality
• Gala Concert in historic Lincoln Cathedral (please note this will be on the Friday night) with Chantage, the Orlando Consort, Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs and the Suwon Civic Chorale from South Korea.
Sessions will be held in the brand new Performing Arts Centre, and the exhibition hall is in the adjacent spacious and newly-restored Engine Shed, the largest exhibition space abcd has ever had.
