Both a transcontinental clipper-ship from the 1850s and a state-of-the-art naval ship from World War 1carried the intrepid name Dreadnought, meaning "invincible" or "total abscence of fear." Impressively written for concert band, this awe-inspiring composition never lets up from the opening measure's snare drum solo until the final chord. Complicated rhythms throughout and a huge percussive battery with piano will certainly challenge the best of players.
