A major new choral/orchestral work from the composer of Adiemus and The Armed Man. The 13th-century Latin sequence, set by many famous composers of the past, receives a fresh expression and intensity in Karl Jenkins' setting.
The work is divided into twelve movements and incorporates additional texts including Ave verum corpus (originally composed for Bryn Terfel), Lament by Carol Barratt, and English texts derived from ancient Babylonian and medieval Persian sources. By turns dramatic and reflective, Stabat Mater will be eagerly seized on by Jenkins fans everywhere.
Suitable for choirs of intermediate standard upwards. EMI Classics CD recording by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by the composer, released in March 2008
Press Reviews
"A thunderously good sing . . . this new Stabat Mater is a triumph. . . . It has zest and flair and urgency. . . . The explosive central section (for the four stanzas at Sancta mater) is like a big-screen Dies Irae -- like ushering Part Three of The Lord of the Rings into the concert hall. . . . could make a marked impact in choral-society concerts around the country."
