A new 10-minute documentary on Louis Andriessen, centered around an interview filmed at his apartment in Amsterdam. The composer discusses the early influence of jazz and the development of his distinctive compositional style.

Growing up in a family of musicians and composers, Louis Andriessen travelled from the Netherlands to study with Luciano Berio. He moved on from the accepted serial language of young composers to embrace American pioneers such as Philip Glass and Steve Reich, forging a new hard-hitting minimalist music for an age of protest. His creative life has seen him collaborating with leading international figures in the theatre, film and dance worlds, to compose music ranging from political commentary through earthy humour to the rarefied artistic world of Vermeer.

This film is presented by Boosey & Hawkes and directed  by Tommy Pearson of Red Ted Films.
