What cannot be disputed is that the three movements of the Organ Sonata in E minor BWV 528 are not original works. Just as indisputable are the indications pointing to the three different sources (one cantata movement and two further organ pieces). Not all of these sources, in their turn, are also originals. With competence, courage and flair, Dirksen uncovers the presumably genuine basis of the three closely connected pieces, thus giving rise to a trio sonata for oboe (d’amore), viola (da gamba) and basso continuo. Considering the availability of the various instruments and historical tunings (organ and concert pitch), the work can be performed both in G minor as well as in E minor. What could be more appealing to musicians looking for seriously legitimated works by Bach!
