Scarecrow Songs
2. Silly Scarecrow

This haiku of Yayu was translated by Peter Beilenson in Haiku Harvest published by Peter Pauper Press. The accompaniment can be performed by any combination of instruments available and is intended to simulate the frantic activity of the birds while the choral parts are meant to mock the scarecrow's feeble attempts to ward off the birds. For treble voices in three parts (SSA), three flutes and marimba or piano.
