All Too Soon is set in Nova Scotia, a province in the Canadian Maritimes where families, who for generations lived close to the land and to each other, are now separated by the exodus of young people who must head to the big cities for work or university. The piece is a lament for the young who must leave, but also a tribute to the ancient land and the even more ancient sea on which all Maritimers depend. This energetic work combines an Irish folk melody and two Celtic mazurkas with original text, a lament for the exodus of young people from the small communities of Nova Scotia. For mixed choir (SATB) and piano.
