El desembre congelat is a traditional Catalonian carol. The tune and words, of unknown origin, are thought to have been created between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. The carol was originally written in Catalan, a language related to French and Spanish and influenced by Latin.

Howard Hawhee, who wrote a translation of the carol says, "the Catalonians were very much influenced by the troubadours in their lyric writing and this song is no exceptions; the vivid imagery is very much in a troubadour tradition." For treble voices in two parts (SS) and piano. Catalan and English text.
