ROMANTIC VIOLIN SONATAS
Arne Balk-Møller, violin
Christina Bjørkøe, piano

Hakon Børresen, composer
Louis Glass, composer
Fini Henriques, composer

About
Sonatas for violin and piano are among the most well-loved genres in the chamber music of the late 19th century. As both a chamber music and salon music genre the violin sonata permits
the large-scale, the effectful, the impressive and the festive as well as the emotive or sentimental. This CD displays the whole palette featuring the music of three excellent Danish fin-de-siècle composers: Hakon Børresen, Louis Glass, and Fini Henriques.

Reviews
På hvert instrument bliver der musiceret fornemt. Det musikalske udtryk er noget mere klassisk afdæmpet, men ikke mindre godt af den grund. Den nordiske tone er intakt.
(Musikeren)

Hakon Børresen´s A minor Sonata is ordent and attractively melodic...Louis Glass´ First Sonata (1888) has some sparkling writing and a lovely slow movement...The inclusion of two salon miniatures by Fini Henriques...make a good foil...The music is dispatched with the same feeling for line and colour. Arne Balk-Møller´s tone is near ideal and Christina Bjørkøe is a splendid accompanist.
(Gramophone, 2006/08)

To storartede danske kunstnere har kastet sig ud i sjældent hørt dansk senromantisk repertoire.
(High Fedelity)

Det er...det perfekte samspil mellem violin og klaver, der gør pladen til en stor fornøjelse.

Dacapo have done this as winningly as usual. Three Danish late-romantics treading the path through salon shallows and romantic excess. Lovingly performed and recorded.
(Musicweb)

Arne Balk-Møller og Christine Bjørkøe finder fint ind i den danske romantiske ånd.
