Marc Blitzstein was a vital figure in the development of American opera and musical theater * His stage works – among them The Cradle Will Rock, The Harpies, Regina, and I’ve Got the Tune – blend social commentary and political satire with charm, simplicity and humor * Is best known for his English-language adaptation of Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera * Has enjoyed a notable revival in recent years, following the release of a disc by Dawn Upshaw and a Hollywood film directed by Tim Robbins * Boosey & Hawkes has issued three volumes of songs, featuring memorable selections from the composer’s stageworks, including works not previously in print

Orchestra Variations (1934) for full orchestra
Piano Concerto (1931)

Looking Ahead: Marc Blitzstein's centennial is celebrated March 2, 2005; concerts, stage productions, and recitals are planned for the anniversary season
