During this year’s historic New Orleans’s Jazz and Heritage Festival audiences were electrified by a jubilant and celebratory performance of the groundbreaking suite Congo Square. The composition is a collaboration with trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and master percussionist Yacub Addy that pays homage to Marsalis’ native New Orleans. Wynton along with his musical family, Branford, Delfeayo and Jason came together to honor their father Ellis Marsalis who received the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival Lifetime Achievement Award during a special performance by the Marsalis Family and ceremony at the Kennedy Center. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis will embark on their annual Summer European Tour performing at premiere jazz festivals such as Montreal, North Sea, Umbria and Vitoria.
