Premiered by the Dallas Symphony and conductor Jaap van Zweden on February 10, Christopher Rouse’s latest symphony was warmly received by audiences and critics alike. (Read more about the work and its inspiration here.) This latest symphonic success falls into a long line of celebrated works for orchestra by Rouse.

"Rarely does a brand-new piece of music really grab me and keep me completely engaged on first hearing. But the world premiere of Christopher Rouse's brilliant, exciting and at times hauntingly beautiful Fifth Symphony had that effect Friday night, at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Judging by the roaring ovation after the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performance, under music director Jaap van Zweden, lots of others were similarly affected."
Dallas News

"Over the past 30 years, the American composer has steadily produced an impressive row of symphonies (along with a substantial body of other works). With this new addition to the list, he can stake claim to the title of the leading American symphonist of our time."
Texas Classical Review

Rouse’s Fifth Symphony was commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Music Director Jaap van Zweden, with generous support of the Norma and Don Stone Fund for New Music; the Nashville Symphony, Giancarlo Guerrero Music Director; and the Aspen Music Festival and School, Robert Spano Music Director.

The symphony will next be performed at the Aspen Music Festival on August 6, led by Joshua Weilerstein, and then by the Nashville Symphony and Giancarlo Guerrero on October 5–8.
