Composer Andrew Hill was honored posthumously at the Eleventh Annual Jazz Journalists Association Awards, held on June 28 at The Jazz Standard in New York. Andrew garnered three of the six awards for which he had been nominated: Composer of the Year (his fifth such honor), Pianist of the Year, and the Lifetime Achievement Award. The ceremony, co-sponsored by Boosey & Hawkes and attended by Andrew's widow, Joanne, included a heart-felt musical tribute of two of Andrew's works performed by noted pianist and protégé of Andrew's, Frank Kimbrough, and a champagne toast to Andrew, sponsored by BMI. Each attendee was presented with CDs of works by Hill and B&H composers Chick Corea and David Benoit.
Mussorgsky's famous work in Ravel's technicolour orchestration is included in the Masterworks Library of full scores, ideal for conductors, students and music lovers.
