New Rachmaninoff publications from B&H
Boosey & Hawkes has completed its collection of Rachmaninoff Masterworks with a new full score of Symphonic Dances, combined with the Respighi orchestration of Etudes-Tableaux and Rachmaninoff's own orchestration of the evergreen Vocalise. B&H acquired the composer’s late works in 1999, including Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Piano Concerto No.4, and embarked on a major publication programme, ranging from full scores of orchestral works to easy piano versions of Rachmaninoff classics.
Pianists will be eager to explore a newly engraved edition of Rachmaninoff’s own two piano arrangement of Symphonic Dances. Left incomplete at his death, this score has been edited for publication by leading Rachmaninoff scholar Robert Threlfall. Boosey & Hawkes has also reissued Piano Compositions Vol.1 in the best-selling Russian Piano Classics series, combining the Chopin Variations with an enlarged selection of miniatures.
The popularity of Rachmaninoff continues unabated, with Piano Concerto No.2 topping Classic FM’s 2005 Hall of Fame for the fifth successive year. Eight works appeared in the top 300, including Symphony No.2 (No.12), Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (No.20), Piano Concerto No.3 (No.39), Piano Concerto No.1, Vespers, Symphony No.3 and Vocalise.
