A new CD sampler offers dance promoters and choreographers an exploration of Rachmaninoff’s music. Although the composer’s output did not include works specifically for ballet, his music has been frequently choreographed. Perhaps best known is Sir Frederick Ashton’s Rhapsody, a sparkling setting of the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, recently revived by The Royal Ballet Covent Garden with Viviana Durante and Carlos Acosta in the principal roles. Other choreographers have been drawn to Rachmaninoff’s rich and Romantic vein, setting such works as The Isle of the Dead, The Bells and Piano Concerto No.2.
If you are a choreographer or ballet promoter, and would like a copy of the new sampler, please contact us by email.
Many of the tracks on the new sampler CD can be heard on this website, so please visit our Rachmaninoff Sound Sample collection.
Britten's pacifist masterwork, combining war poetry by Wilfred Owen with the Latin Requiem Mass, is included in the Masterworks Library of full scores, ideal for conductors, students and music lovers.
