Steven Lankenau Appointed Director, Promotion

Boosey & Hawkes is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric M. Gewirtz as Director, Media & Public Relations and Steven Lankenau as Director, Promotion for the New York office. Gewirtz and Lankenau report to Senior Vice President Zizi Mueller, leading the promotion department to develop and implement communications and promotion strategy for North and South America.

Effective November 11, 2010, Eric M. Gewirtz succeeds Sarah Baird Knight to manage publicity for all Boosey & Hawkes composers and to oversee communications throughout North and South America from advertising and publications to press relations and social media. Gewirtz comes to Boosey & Hawkes after more than five years at the New York Philharmonic, where he most recently held the position of Assistant Director, Public Relations, Media and Touring. In February 2008, Gewirtz traveled to Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, for the Orchestra's historic performance with Music Director Lorin Maazel, working with media from around the globe. He has since worked on four concert tours, spanning Europe, Asia and the United States, and has worked closely with the Philharmonic's exclusive Global Sponsor, Credit Suisse. Since he joined the Philharmonic in 2005, he helped launch Alan Gilbert as Music Director, produced the award-winning nationally syndicated radio series The New York Philharmonic This Week, developed the online newsroom and musician's Portrait Gallery in Avery Fisher Hall, and managed needs for the annual Concerts in the Parks series. Formerly, he worked at Ruder Finn in the Arts & Communications Counselors department, working on publicity projects for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony, and the Museum of Modern Art, among others. A native of Long Island, he graduated from Arizona State University with degrees in music performance (percussion) and journalism/strategic media.

Steven Lankenau first joined the promotion department of Boosey & Hawkes as Associate Director, Promotion, specializing in opera, dance, and orchestral repertoire. As Director, Promotion, Lankenau oversees composer management and repertoire promotion strategy throughout North and South America. From 2006-2009 he worked at the Brooklyn Philharmonic, first as the Manager of Community Programming, creating chamber concerts for diverse communities, and later as the Director of Programming. During his time in Brooklyn, he focused on premieres and collaborative efforts with non-traditional musicians, bands, theatrical directors, and dance companies. Highlights include collaborations with the band Grizzly Bear and the performers Joanna Newsom and Owen Pallett, the 2008 John Corigliano Festival, and the 2009 Nuevo Latino Festival, part of an orchestral season which earned an ASCAP award for Adventurous Programming. Other experience includes working in the Programming Department at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, creative consulting, and writings on music and the arts, which have been published around the country and online. He has degrees in composition from the University of Wyoming and the University of Massachusetts, where he also taught music theory and history.

Says Senior Vice President Zizi Mueller: "The promotion team at Boosey & Hawkes represents an impressive range of musical background and experience. Under the joint leadership of Steven Lankenau and Eric Gewirtz, I look forward to building our already strong reputation as sincere and dedicated advocates for our composers and catalogues, and as a great resource to the field at large."
