Two new titles by Magnus Lindberg
Violin Concerto for solo violin and piano, and Mano a mano for guitar.
Violin Concerto for solo violin and piano
Lindberg's writing in this concerto, premiered and recorded by Lisa Batiashvili, has been compared to that of the Sibelius violin concerto. According to the Boston Globe, the composer, "shows that it is possible to wed lyricism and virtuosic display with bracingly fresh sounds and musical ideas of substance". The piano reduction is by Simon Smith, prepared under the composer's supervision.
Mano a mano for guitar solo
Premiered in August 2004 by Finnish guitar virtuoso Timo Korhonen and recorded by him on the Ondine label (ODE 1091-2), this is a tour de force of idiomatic, modern guitar writing from a composer whose music is characterised by its energy, colour and a thrilling density of material.
