Gerald Finley stars as Doctor Atomic, J Robert Oppenheimer, on this new Opus Arte DVD, capturing the premiere production of John Adams's opera in the staging by Peter Sellars. Set in the New Mexico desert in 1945, the opera explores the human and scientific dilemmas faced by the nuclear physicists employed to create and test the first atom bomb, that was to have such a devestating impact at the end of the war and pose the ultimate threat for mankind thereafter.
