J.S. Bach’s great Chaconne in D minor from Partita No.2 BWV 1004, stands apart from other partitas and sonatas for solo violin, in its sustained richness of invention and sheer magnificence. It has been delightfully and faithfully transcribed here for Piano Solo by Feruccio B. Busoni.

The piece opens with a somewhat imposing, serious theme which later returns at the middle and end of the piece. Held within these three formal junctures are Twenty-nine brief but spectacular variations, which are cumulatively magnificent.
