In the quartet the composer freely uses a number of techniques, including twelve-tone technique, chosen according to the emotional assumptions of the piece. Hence, in the Quartet we see a wide range of ''tricks'', not conditioned by doctrine imposed from above. The first movement of the Quartet a quiet, lyrical Andante - is the most consistent when it comes to the application of twelve-tone technique. The Second Movement - Allegro - based almost exclusively on pizzicato, also based on a twelve-tone series, but used much more freely than in the first movement; in it episodes appear which differ from the serialisation. In the third movement, in addition to new material, material from the first movement reappears. Part of this develops in several sections, completed with a free coda. Tadeusz Bairds quartet was first performed by Tadeusz Wronskis Warsaw Quartet, in February 1958.
