Award-winning composer and music theoretician Roman Berger is widely respected for his stand against political repression in Eastern Europe during the last century. Most of the works on this recording are dedicated to the members of The Berger Trio, one of Slovakia's leading ensembles. They include a commemoration of the composer's late wife and other aspects of parting. The composer himself has written '... for me expressionism is neither a style nor an aesthetic, nor an "anachronistic" fashion: it is the result of life experience. The drama of existence leads to drama in art.'

Roman Berger's music is virtually unknown in the record catalogues, but his tireless work during the political struggles of the 20th century in Eastern Europe as an administrator, music philosopher and composer, has resulted in his name being held in great affection amongst fellow musicians, including those who took his name to form The Berger Trio. Most of these works in their première recordings are dedicated to the members of this leading Slovak ensemble, whose close association with the composer make them perfect interpreters. This release will provide a sorely needed entry into the world of one of Eastern Europe's most honest and fearless musical voices.
