Love and Spring was composed in April and May 1906 and first performed later that year. It was included in a Henry Wood Promenade Concert in 1914. The score is prefaced by an extract from The Song of Solomon:
"Rise up my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth, and the time of the singing of birds is come."
