These settings marke the culmination of the collaboration between Britten and poet Edith Sitwell. Following Britten's setting of her poem Canticle III op. 55 for tenor, horn and piano, these three songs were performed only once during Britten's lifetime. This publication makes the revised version, prepared by Peter Pears in 1983, available for sale for the first time.
