Charcoal Landscape is a piece for solo cello and flute ensemble. The piece explores the possibilities created by adding the low voice of the cello to a typically treble-heavy ensemble. The cello weaves in and out of the flute ensemble, sometimes as a soloist and sometimes as an ensemble member. The piece is highly melodic and lyrical and alternates between dream-like sections and rhythmic dance sections.
