If you don't know these symphonies, this is as good a way as any to become acquainted. The Hunting Symphony that opens this disc is one of his best known pieces, both for musical and extramusical reasons...But his other symphonies are musically superior to this one...Donald Armstrong leads his orchestra with a firm hand. Dynamics are nicely graded, tempos quick but not rushed. As expected from Naxos, good notes and sound. A true bargain.
