Pietro Antonio Locatelli was born in Bergamo in 1695 and moved to Rome, where he studied for several years, probably under the guidance of Arcangelo Corelli. He published a small number of works, beginning in 1721 with the 12 Concerti grossi Op. 1. To his favourite instrument, the violin, he dedicated the 12 concertos L’Arte del violino Op. 3, published in 1733, and played here by Italian violinist, Luca Fanfoni, and the Reale Concerto Ensemble.
