Jules Massenet's Meditation from 'Thais' has long been a popular piece in it's original form as a solo for violin with orches tral accompaniment. Massenet's musical language is rooted in the past and his liking for the sentimental melodies of Gounod w on him the nickname ' La Fille de Gounod'. The melody in this piece is assigned to a solo stop with a light quaver accompanim ent in the left hand. This work provides an interesting addition to the repertoire and will be suitable for many occasions.
