James O'Donnell was commissioned to arrange the offertory hymn for the Coronation service of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Saturday 6th May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. His setting of 'Christ is Made the Sure Foundation' is based on the music of Henry Purcell and features a thrilling descant, as well as varied harmonies in the last verse of the well-known hymn-tune, 'Westminster Abbey'.

The original orchestration, used at the Coronation, was for 4 trumpets, 3 trombones, timpani, voices (with descant) and organ. However, the arrangement by James O'Donnell has also been re-scored for descant, unison voices and organ, so that it can be performed at occasions when there are no brass instruments.

Descant, unison voice & organ.
