The artfully stylised Waltzes, Marches, Polkas, Quadrilles and Gallops were part and parcel of middle-class concert life at the end of the 19th century. This is mostly to do with the works of Johann Strauß (father) who intrigued audiences with more than 250 works. Thus, some of his compositions are still an integral part of the concert repertoire. The famous Radetzky March is the musical highlight of the present collection in a brilliant arrangement for violin and piano.
