The belle époque era – about the time of peace in Europe between 1871 and 1914 – brought progress and development in many areas: technologically, economically, socially. And even in the arts, innovation forged ahead. Great figures in music like Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, Camille Saint-Saëns, Maurice Ravel and other composers are representatives of this era. The centre was Paris where modern flute playing ('New French School') with the introduction of the Böhm flute also originated from.
The present edition contains ten short pieces – originals and contemporary arrangements – for flute and piano from this era which can be played from the intermediate level. They show off the qualities of the flute in the sense of the 'New French School' in a special way so that, back then and now, the methodological value and the joy of music-making complement each other perfectly. At the same time, the compositions are treasure troves for pupils' concerts and for youth competitions.
This volume is based on first editions and autographs respectively.
