Du var vinden (You were the wind) by Roderick Williams is a four-minute setting for unaccompanied SATB choir (with divisi) of a short, thought-provoking poem by Norwegian poet Olav H. Hauge, using the metaphor of a boat needing wind to describe a relationship between two people and the exciting directions the wind takes it. There is a performing option to have Edvard Grieg’s piano miniature Til Våren (from the Lyric Pieces, Book 3, Op. 43) emerging from this piece, with a coda bringing choir and piano together at the end.
