Deep Phat, composed especially for the Saxology series, is a slow, soulful blues, scored for a cappella jazz saxophone quintet (SATTB). The piece features a funky 12/8 rhythmic feel, richly scored tutti and soli passages, imaginative counterpoint and a short, improvised solo for tenor saxophone.
