The children's opera BRUNDIBAR by Hans Krása and Adolf Hoffmeister became particularly famous through the role it played in the concentration camp Terezín. It helped to make the tragic fate of the prisoners more human and bearable - of those who played in the opera and of those who went to see the more than fifty performances of it. The famous first night of Brundibár in Terezín took place on September 23rd 1943 in the hall of Magdeburg barracks. "The children liked the opera from the very first. Both the music and the text. Both are childlike, the music is modern and melodious..." R. Franek, The Terezín School, Prague 1965

Includes the original Czech libretto by Adolf Hoffmeister, plus an English translation by Joza Karas and a German translation by Frank Harders-Wuthenow & Matthias Harre.
