Haydn's 200th anniversary: String Quartets
Mark the 200th anniversary of Haydn's death with his complete string quartets on score and CD

Joseph Haydn was one of the most important, prolific and prominent composers of the classical period. He is often called the "Father of the Symphony" and the "Father of the String Quartet" because of his important contributions to these genres, and was also instrumental in the evolution of what is commonly known as the 'sonata form'.

To mark the 200th anniversary of Haydn's death, we are highlighting his complete works on score and CD.

The second part of our celebration is dedicated to the composer's complete collection of string quartets: with the recently published, specially priced box set of the Complete String Quartet Study Scores (Doblinger, Urtext Edition) and the Naxos 24-disc set performed by the Kodaly Quartet, Haydn enthusiasts are certain to delve into the fabulous treasures of Haydn's quartets.

“Naxos is lucky to have such a polished, beautifully balanced group as the Kodály Quartet to record Haydn.” -- Gramophone
