Boosey & Hawkes at the 2014 BBC Proms

(July 2014)

The 2014 BBC Proms sees Boosey & Hawkes works across the season, from classics to the latest new repertoire.

Highlights at the Royal Albert Hall include 80th birthday events for Birtwistle and Maxwell Davies, UK premieres of works by John Adams, Qigang Chen and Brett Dean, and special celebrations for Richard Strauss's 150th anniversary.

Maxwell Davies 80th highlights include Symphony No.5 with the BBC Philharmonic, a London Sinfonietta performance of A Mirror of Whitening Light, and a late-night Prom on the birthday itself (8 September) including the London premiere of his concert overture Ebb of Winter. Birtwistle is represented by Night's Black Bird played by the BBC Philharmonic, Exody performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and a matinée programme at Cadogan Hall.

Heading the Richard Strauss celebrations are concert performances of his three most widely performed operas, Salome, Elektra and Der Rosenkavalier. As well as evergreens such as the orchestral tone poems and the Four Last Songs, the Proms explores rarer works such as the Deutsche Motette, the Symphonic Fantasia from Die Frau ohne Schatten and the cantata Taillefer on the Last Night - telling the tale of a heroic minstrel at the Battle of Hastings.
