From The Tender Land.

Customer Reviews

"The thing I find somewhat distasteful about this arrangement is that it wasobviously intended to be performed by advanced high school or college ensembles (the mallet percussion parts are sufficiently advanced to hazard this guess), yet Singleton has left out some important instruments that might have better approximated the sound of sustained strings, particularly beginning at measure 79. Why didn't Singleton use piccolo, e-flat clarinet, even b-flat clarinet to play those sutained string "sighs" rather than mallet instruments which cannot possibly sustain? The result is a very clunky finish to a great piece that should have been transcribed more carefully. I would hope that Boosey and Hawkes is looking at other option for this transcription. This is not a slight on Singleton...his other transcriptions have proven to be of high quality. This one, however, is not."
