BBC Proms Season 2013

This will be is the 119th year of the Proms and it still remains true to its original aim: to present the widest possible range of music, performed to the highest standards, to large audiences.

 

The first Proms concert took place on 10 August 1895 and was the brainchild of the impresario Robert Newman, manager of the newly built Queen's Hall in London.

While Newman had previously organised symphony orchestra concerts at the hall, his aim was to reach a wider audience by offering more popular programmes, adopting a less formal promenade arrangement, and keeping ticket prices low. Information taken from the BBC Proms Offical Website

Conductors meet for a 4-day CME professional developmental course focusing on repertoire, singing technique, conducting, and choral pedagogy at Carthage College. The course emphasizes conducting technique with an emphasis on the essential elements of Choral Teacher

Score Study and Analysis (a score preparation that works!)
Conducting (gesture as listening, teaching, performing)
Rehearsal Pedagogy (focusing on non-verbal techniques and reflective practice)
