Enrico Chapela studied at CIEM academy in Mexico. He obtained a Master degree at the University of Paris Saint-Denis in 2008. Since the year 2002 he has won recognitions at several national and international competitions such as The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowships, National System of Art Creators (FONCA-Mexico), the International Rostrum of Composers (UNESCO), International Alexander Zemlinsky Composition Competition and The Barlow Endowment for Music Composition Prize.

Enrico Chapela has been commissioned to compose new works for The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dresdner Sinfoniker, Carnegie Hall, Britten Sinfonia, Wigmore Hall, Berkeley Symphony, Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar, Orquestra Sinfônica de São Paulo, City of Birmingham Symphony, University of Cincinnati’s CCM Symphony, Orquesta Sinfónica Carlos Chávez, Entrequatre, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, ONIX Ensemble, New Paths in Music Festival, Vail Music Festival, and the National Center for the Performing Arts (Beijing).

His music has been performed in Latin America, North America, Asia and Europe by performers such as the Chicago Symphony, Indianapoils Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Jena Philharmonic, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México, Cabrillo Festival, Tanglewood Festival, Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico, Metropolis Ensamble, Percussion Group Cincinnati, North/South Chamber Orchestra, Nuevo Ensamble de México, Ensemble 10/10, Arditti String Quartet, Carpentier String Quartet, Cuarteto José White, Modern Sax Quartett Berlin, Haags Saxofoonkwartet, Stockholm Sax Quartet, Cosmos Sax Quartet, Case Sax Quartet, Anacrusax, Tambuco, Quinteto de Alientos de la Ciudad de México, Quinteto de Metales de la Ciudad de México, Trio de Alientos de Bellas Artes, Gonzalo Salazar, Victor Flores, Mauricio Náder, Álvaro Bitrán, Natalia Pérez Turner, Horacio Franco, Alejandro Escuer and Johannes Moser.

Some of the conductors that have conducted his music are: Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gustavo Dudamel, Marin Alsop, Joana Carneiro, Krzysztof Urbanski, Alondra De la Parra, Andrew Cyr, Cliff Colnot, José Luis Castillo, José Areán, Joshua Dos Santos, Mark Gibson, Giancarlo Guerrero, Jason Love, Pascal Rophé, Stefan Asbury, Nicholas Milton, Daryl Pratt, Clark Rundell, Max Lifchitz, David Alan Miller, Enrique Barrios, Diego Matheuz, Olari Elts y Miguel Salmón del Real.

Chapela has also composed Mexican film scores. SOMOS LO QUE HAY, produced by CCC and directed by Jorge Michel Grau, that obtained the Mexican Film Academy 2011 nomination por best original music. AMAR NO ES QUERER, produced by picante films and directed by Guillermo Barba, was selected the “Best Original Music Score” at the “Pantalla de Cristal” film festival.

Enrico Chapela’s music has been broadcasted in more than 40 countries all over the world, such as: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Chili, Czech Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Also, Chapela teaches composition at CIEM academy and hosts a contemporary music radio show called METAMUSICA that’s broadcasted at OPUS 94 radio station. His music is exclusively published by Boosey & Hawkes.
