David Elliott: Simple Riffs SS & piano

This arrangement is a jazz treatment of the traditional Shaker folk melody, "Simple Gifts" for treble voices in two parts (SS) and piano.

After a traditional statement of the original tune, this setting presents the melody as a jazz samba, a jazz waltz, and finally a fast jazz swing. Within this arrangement the singers "trade" jazz variationson the traditional folk song melody.
